Abstract
The stability of rigid fixation method after Sagittal split ramus osteotomy of mandible was evaluated by using 3 Dimentional Finite Element Method model. The Computed Tomography of human mandible was utilized for the 3-D finite element method
model
construction. Three cases for study were created ; Three bicortical postion screw fixation with triangular form(case I) , One monocortical miniplate fixation(case ¥±). Two monocortical miniplate fixation(case ¥²).
The Stability was analyzed by stress and deviation under vertical load The case ¥²showed minimum Von-Mises stress and deviation. The case ¥±appeared less deviation than the case I, and more Von-Mises stress than the case I. There were no
demonstrable
differences between the three screw cases and one miniplate case with respect to stability.
This study leads to the realization that the fixation of mandible with one monocortical miniplate after Sagittal split osteotomy is an acceptable procedure.
